Common Sense or Lack

The lack of common sense is rampant and has been for a long time. The notion is that logic prevails but logic is no longer dictated by morals, values, integrity, honesty, compassion, commitment even reality but rather scientific inquiry, manipulating results, financial abundance and fame- infamous and otherwise. However, the focus on the material, financial, physical, intellectual leaves an imbalance, gap, void in the mystical, magical, emotional, spiritual, intangible qualities of life. In such a void, both the country and the individuals who inhabit it are empty seeking fulfillment through the measurable, knowable. Life is so very, very much more than the sound bites that pervade our senses. One day, as history demonstrates, when the pendulum swings so far to one side, eventually it will right itself to either some place in the middle or far to the other extreme. Time will tell….
The psychology profession is a mental pursuit, hence the term ‘mental illness’. However, instead of encouraging clients to evoke the deeply emotional and spiritual aspects of self, professionals are trained to focus on the intellectual. The emotional scars and spiritual brokenness are what drives the unstable intellect. After all, the heart emits 5 watts of energy while the brain emits only .5 watts. Is it any wonder then that society proliferates in mental instability and the lack of common sense?
